Capital Area Therapy
Capital Area Therapy is dedicated to providing evidence-based treatments to children, teens, and adults. Treatment plans are developed collaboratively, with you, using a strength-based approach taking into consideration your unique goals and values.
There are two primary evidence-based research treatments used at Capital Area Therapy, LLC: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Parent Management Training (PMT).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy aims to improve mood and anxiety, using a short-term, goal-oriented, method to change thinking and behavioral patterns that are no longer working for you. For example, do you notice that you or your child avoid social situations, are very fearful of a specific object or situation (such as spiders or the dark), have a tendency to worry about a lot of different things, or tend to try to do tasks without making mistakes?
Parent Management Training is offered to parents who are coping with behavioral challenges, resulting from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), intermittent explosive disorder (IED), etc. of their children and are looking for a more structured way to handle child behavioral challenges. Do you notice that your child has a tendency to talk back excessively, refuses to follow directions the first time asked, and/or explodes when asked to get off of screens? If so, PMT may be the right fit for you and your family!
Additional evidence-based treatments, such as behavioral activation, mindfulness, Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), etc. may also be used.
Individual treatment is currently offered for anxiety, depression, stress, and adjustment for children, teens, and adults. Parenting training, using either PMT or SPACE, is available to parents.
Treatment is individually tailored to meet your needs, based on your short- and long- term goals.
